Chocolate Cake Roll Trifle

An easy, make-ahead dessert that layers chocolate cake rolls, whipped cream, and fresh berries for a stunning presentation.

  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 Hy-Vee Bakery chocolate cake rolls, sliced into rounds
  • 3 cups fresh whipped cream
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • Extra whole berries for garnish
  • Optional: shaved chocolate or cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Slice the chocolate cake rolls into rounds.
  2. In a trifle dish, layer the slices of chocolate cake rolls at the bottom.
  3. Add a layer of fresh whipped cream over the cake slices.
  4. Add a layer of mixed berries on top of the whipped cream.
  5. Repeat the layers until the dish is full, finishing with whipped cream and a few berries on top.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

Keep whipped cream stable by folding in powdered sugar and vanilla. Slice cake rolls when slightly chilled for neater layers. Make ahead for best flavor and garnish just before serving.
