Easy Creamed Peas

A nostalgic and creamy side dish made with sweet peas and a quick cream sauce, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans sweet peas (about 3 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Warm the canned peas in their juice over medium heat until hot.
  2. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in the flour, salt, and pepper; cook and whisk for 1 minute.
  4. Slowly whisk in the milk, cook until bubbly and thick, about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the milk mixture from heat. Drain the peas and return them to the pan.
  6. Pour the milk mixture over the peas and stir in the sugar. Serve warm.

Notes

Keep the pea juice warm but not boiling and add sugar gradually to taste.
