- 2 cans sweet peas (about 3 cups)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
Instructions
- Warm the canned peas in their juice over medium heat until hot.
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour, salt, and pepper; cook and whisk for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in the milk, cook until bubbly and thick, about 5 minutes.
- Remove the milk mixture from heat. Drain the peas and return them to the pan.
- Pour the milk mixture over the peas and stir in the sugar. Serve warm.
Notes
Keep the pea juice warm but not boiling and add sugar gradually to taste.
