Ingredients
Scale
- 4 green tomatoes, sliced
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Remoulade sauce or dipping sauce of choice
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Slice the green tomatoes into even rounds and season both sides lightly with salt and pepper.
- Dip each tomato slice into the buttermilk so it gets a thin, even coating.
- Dredge the buttermilk-coated slices in the cornmeal and flour mixture until fully covered.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the tomato slices until golden brown, about 3–4 minutes per side.
- Remove the fried tomatoes and drain on paper towels; serve hot with remoulade or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Use firm, unripe green tomatoes for best results. Fry in batches to avoid crowding the pan and losing crispiness.
