Ingredients
Scale
- 1 can (20 oz) Young Jackfruit, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1/2 cup Cornmeal (optional)
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 cup Plant-Based Milk
- Vegetable Oil for frying, as needed
- Optional Serving: Rice, sandwiches, or slaw
Instructions
- Prep the Jackfruit: Drain and rinse the young jackfruit, then chop it into smaller pieces.
- Make the Coating: In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal (if using), spices, salt, and black pepper to create the coating mixture.
- Prepare the Wet Mixture: Pour the plant-based milk into another bowl to prepare the wet mixture.
- Coat the Jackfruit: Dip each piece of jackfruit into the milk and then coat it in the flour mixture, ensuring even coverage.
- Heat the Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat until hot.
- Fry the Jackfruit: Fry the coated jackfruit pieces until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Drain Excess Oil: Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve: Serve over rice, in sandwiches, or with slaw to complement the flavors.
Notes
Ensure the oil is hot before adding jackfruit to avoid sogginess. Adjust the spices to your heat preference.
